Angela Ahbez-Anderson is married and has been a Monmouth County resident for over 25 years.

Angela is a highly successful motivational speaker, coach, and on-camera talent. She began her on-air career as a television news anchor in Pittsburgh, PA. Since moving to New Jersey, Angela has been the voice for national and regional television, radio and cable commercials. She has been the spokesperson for major corporations such as Prudential, General Electric, Mattel Toys, General Mills, and the American Heart Association.

In addition to her professional career, Angela has been an active volunteer for the community. Since 2012, she has served on the Asbury Park Board of Education and is now in her fourth term as President. Under her leadership, Angela unified a once-dysfunctional Board of Education and began the hard work of turning around the Asbury Park School District. During Angela’s tenure, academic scores have gone up, fiscal responsibility has been restored, and, through the newly-instituted Dream Academy, Asbury Park high school students are graduating with both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree from Brookdale Community College.

As a longtime member of St. Stephen’s AMEZ Church, Angela discovered her passion for mentoring women. She created partnerships with both non-profits, and community-based programs offering health screenings, healthy eating and exercise programs, empowering workshops for women, parenting classes, and CPR Training.

Angela has founded numerous mentoring programs and initiatives focused on empowering women and girls, including The Rebuilding Me Project (designed to help low-income women work towards self-sufficiency), the Summer Civility Program (a free After-School program at the Hope Academy Charter School offered during the 2008-2009 school year), and a public speaking program for young girls at St. Stephens AME Zion Church.

Angela currently serves as a Library Trustee of the Asbury Park Library, Vice-Chair of the Asbury Park Recreation Commission and Vice-Chair of the Asbury Park Democratic Club.

In 2019, State Senator Vin Gopal awarded Angela the Distinguished Public Servant Award in honor of Women’s History Month. She is also the recipient of the Rosa Parks Legacy Award for her public service to the people of both Asbury Park and Neptune.

Angela and her husband Calvin reside in Asbury Park with their son and daughter.
